stopping the stressful life

How to stop the crazy pace of life with one simple strategy

The typical Type A, EnnEagram 3, go-getter is the type of person in our society who gets praised because they get stuff DONE. But what they also get is a breakdown, burnout, tear-soaked pillows, anxiety, depression, failing relationships, you name it. Even if you don’t have those characteristics, the pressures of this world can be too much. Pandemic aside, “I’m done” moments are more frequent than not – throwing in the towel, sitting in silence, and believing there is more.

Where did we get it in our heads that we HAVE to do it all?? Better yet, where in the Bible does it say that we need to? If the Bible is our source of truth, why are we getting all our information on how to live and who we are supposed to be outside of it? How and where did this go-getter hamster form in our heads that day in and day out tells us we need to be a good and perfect wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend, neighbor, follower, leader, business owner, board member, employee, influencer, cook, cleaner, DIYer, AND post it on social media because without the proof and personal branding all we have built for perfection may come tumbling down and we will have to start all over again. Are you tired yet?

So, what we can we do? We can let go. We can not only let go of perfection, which is training our brain to reset and remember that Good or OK is enough, but we can also let go of some of those roles and responsibilities we think we have to do.

Here’s the reality. No one needs us as much as we think they do. Ouch. They love us, but they don’t need us to continue to function as an organization, company, whatever it may be, and well-equipped people can take our place. It’s painful to admit, but it’s true.

The goal for us is to quit the crazy, to quit the anxiety of always doing and always going, and allow for more space to just be. Just be with God, just be with family and friends, just be. Now how to rest in that peace is a WHOLE different topic, and we’ll get there one day, but for now, grab your headphones, a notebook, and pen and hit play to figure out how to reduce and let go for a more manageable less stressful pace of life.
